Ensure bacteriological, physical, and chemical water quality through local systems that are low cost, reliable, and easily maintained - While this is a last line of defense, in most of the developing world it is going to be extremely difficult if not impossible to deliver safe drinking water- there are simply too many things that can go wrong from source contamination through to contamination in distribution systems to contamination in household storage containers. Following on to that would be a program to field test the household treatment systems, develop distribution channels, and increase consumer awareness. There are a number of treatment systems on the market now so we could build on those.
